The direct object is what or who directly receives the action. These pronouns replace it so you don't have to repeat the noun.

The indirect object answers to whom or for whom the action happens.

When a direct and an indirect object pronoun appear together, the indirect one always comes first — but le and les change to se right before lo/la/los/las.
Quick trick: "le lo" and "le la" don't exist in Spanish — whenever le or les would sit right before lo, la, los, or las, it automatically becomes se.
Order to remember: indirect before direct — "me lo das" (you give it to me), never "lo me das."
